Proteomic analysis of post translational modifications illuminates the system wide properties of stem cell differentiation. Complex biological processes such as stem cell differentiation are shaped by intricate patterns of gene expression and protein activity. Yet many of the interesting regulatory steps, particularly those involved in cell proliferation, migration and differentiation, depend crucially on proteins' post translational modifications rather than on their expression levels.
