Isi artikel
The present article draws on ethnographic data to illuminate dynamics of race, gender, and systemic violence in an informal urban learning environment. It makes critical linkages among relationships that undermine the educational achievement of Black children. The article does not stop at simply documenting violent schooling conditions, however. It goes on to illuminate mechanisms of systemic violence in ways that reveal possibilities for fostering more humane environments and for reducing real and imagined aggression in urban educational settings.
