Isi artikel
Conversational skill has a number ofcomponents, such as turn taking that includes the ability to give responses while listening (backchannels), signal other speaker to speak (TRP), give adjacent response (adjacency pair), rapid turn taking (latching), and overlapping, topic relatedness, topic selection and topic maintenance. This swdy aimed at describing the conversational skills ofan Indonesian child. The data of this study were the subject ~cspoken uuerances which were recorded. The results ofthe study show that the subject has was in turn taking in which the successful turn taking accouniedfor 66.62% andfailure in turn taking only accounted for /4.02% of the total turn taking performance. This failure in turn taking might result from the subject’s undeveloped slate of other conversational skills, i.e. topic selection and topic maintenance, and topic relatedness. As these skills were not developed well yet, they then influenced the performance ofother conversational skills, in this case the skill ofturn taking.
