Isi artikelReader‘s existing knowledge or schemata have important roles in the process of reading. They are needed in making predictions, allocating attention and making inferences. In addition, they help reading teachers to select readable reading materials as well as to help students activate their schemata in text comprehension. This article describes the functions ofschemata in reading comprehension and the implication for EFL reading comprehension.
