Culture - behaviour relationships can be understood inrelation to many dimensions. It is argued that the cultural, indigenous and comparative traditions of research are mutually compatible and indeed permit a symbiotic approach. This symbiosis produces a generic field, that of cross - cultural psychology, into which the three traditions can be incorporated, and permits the pursuit of a universal psychology.
