This study aims to explore whether a difference exists between personality characteristic profiles of grand - mal type epileptic patients and those of non - patients. Personality characteristics are measured with characteristic analysis questionnaire, an adaptation from the clinical analysis questionnaire, composed according to the 16 personality factors of cattell. Subjects are 17 grand - mal type epileptic patients, registered at the neurological polyclinic, Dr. Soetomo Hospital, surabaya, aged between 18 - 30 years, minimal education : high school freshmen, and not physically handicapped. Controls are same sex siblings. Data were analyzed with non - parametric statistics (U Mann - Whitney_. Results show no difference between characteristic profiles of the two groups, because only B & C factors (12,5%) support the hypothesis, while the A & I. Factors, though different, do not support the hypothesis and the rest of the characteristics show no differences.
