Nowadays many efforts are aimed to enhance a person's emotional ability or emotional intelligence, one of which is the emotional literacy spearheaded by steiner (1997), which covers three basic emotional abilities, namely the ability to understand oneself, the ability to listen to others (empathy), and the ability to express one's emotion productively. Through steiner's method, this research is keen to find out the effect of emotional literacy on the emotional intelligence of youth especially javanese youth studying at St. Thomas Acquino's catholic high school, tulungagung. This quasi - experiment use a non - randomized control group pretest - posttest design consisting an experiment (N = 50) and a control group (N = 48). The emotional intelligence was measured with a likert scale questionnaire, the data was analysed with a t - test. Results show an alteration of the subject's emotional itnelligence score, either the experimental, or the control group, before and after the emotional literacy training sessions. The difference in the experimental group which is bigger than in the control group (though statistically not significant) a discussed.
