Isi artikelInsulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) is a chronic disease, causing many psychological problems to patients themselves and their families as well, which in turn influence the blood glucose levels, a condition not yet well understood. Interviews have been done towards 10 IDDM patients in surabaya, concerning compliance to their diets, insulin injection, blood glocuse control, relation with their families and society around them, emotional reactions and non - medical drug use. Results show among others that 80% of them didn't understand their diet well and faced many difficulties in implemeting it, 60% of parents are worried about their condition leading to overprotection, and 50% of them still using non - medical . traditional drugs. A multidisciplinary approach involving an endocrinologist, a pediatrician, a psychologist, a psychiatrist, a nurese, a dieticien, a social worker, a teacher, and parents in a team is discussed.
