This research examines the correlation between creative personality characteristic and extrinsic - intrinsic motivation and creativity, a separate correlation between creative personality characteristics and creativity and a separate extrinsic - intrinsic motivation and creativity and whether the extrinsic or the intrinsic motivation that play a more significant role in supporting the appearance of creativity. Subjects (N = 84) are 5th semester students of the architecture department of the university of 17th august in surabaya, with IQ's between 90 - 110. Data were collected through torrance test of creativity thinking (TTCT) figural, Hunt's extrinsic - intrinsic motivation test and Guilford's creative perosnality characteristics. Data were analysed with anareg and reveals a positive correlation between extrinsic - intrinsic motivation and creativity, a positive correlation between creative personality characteristics and creativity, and a positive and significant correlation between creative personality characteristics and creativity, and a positive and significant correlation between creative personality characteristics and extrinsic - intrinsic motivation and creativity. Data analysis with Contingency C. Coefficient reveal a significant difference between a creative student with extrinsic background and a creative student with an intrinsic background, the latter showing a bigger share in developing creativity.
