Isi artikelInventory is a stock of goods. Inventories are kept at various places in a system. A retailers keep inventories at their store warehouse from which they satisfy customers demands. There is a variety of reasons for maintaining an inventory to handle the uncertainty of demand and price to reduce the cost of too frequent ordering etc. There are also reasons for not keeping too much inventory: holding inventory costs money through storage costs, tied-up capital, spoilage, insurance, taxes, etc. Hence, there is a problem of deciding optimal inventory level. Uncertainty conditions in a inventory system can be envolving randomly in time and described by a stochastic process. One of tools in stochastic process which it is easy to do probabilistic computations is discrete-time Markov Chain. This paper describes case study at PT X, one of big retailers in Yogyakarta,, in calculating the optimal size of the inventory for a kind of product. using Markov Chain approach. The retailer uses the following (s, S) ordering policy, In general, an (s, S) policy is a periodic review policy that calls for ordering up to S units whenever the inventory level dips below s (s < S). If the inventory level is s or greater, then no order is placed.
