One view of what makes an e-object a learning object is that its purpose is instructional, and it contains not just the information to be learned, but also information about how it may best be learned. The purpose of this article is to describe some of the principles of effective learning that have emerged from the cognitive sciences, and to consider how they might frame decisions about the instructional design and use of LOs.
