Hepatities C is a major health problem. the global prevalence of chronic hepatitis C is estimated to average 3 % : there are some 170 million chronic HCV carries throughout the world with mortality of 500.000 - 1 million people per year, of whom an estimated 5 million are in Indonesia with death cases ranging 20.000 to 40.000 patients per year. the recent international consensus for treatment of hepatitis C is with interferon alpha 3 milllion unit thrice in week ini combination with ribavirin-1200 mg daily for 6 till 12 months. sustained response with scheme of therapy depends on age, viral load, and genotype. two recent major advances in antiviral therapy of hepatitis C are ribavirin and pegylated IFN.
