Isi artikel
Although developmental and social psychologists have studied prosocial behaviour for the past twenty years, its occurence in adolescents has received little attention. In the present paper, observational and self - report data were collected on 37 non handicapped and handicapped (behaviourally disordered) adolescents in public school settings. Helping, sharing, cooperatinf, comforting, defending, donating, and rescuing were the prosocial behaviours investigated. The adolescents with handicaps displayed significantly more prosocial behaviour than did the non handicapped adolescents. However, the non handicapped adolescents perceived themselves as engaging more frequently in prosocial behaviour than did their handicapped peers. The teachers of the handicapped adolescnts used a prosocial teaching style more frequently than did the teachers of the non handicapped adolescents. Implications for future research and training are discussed.
