This paper delineates the fundamental structure of textual-theological rationality (hadarah al-nass) as elaborated by Ghazali in the muslim world, and philosophical rationality (hadarah al-falsafah) as elaborated by Immanuel Kant in the western tradition. both wiil be carefully compared and their implications and relevance closely analyzed, especially in response to the moral and political challenges involved in the endeavor to establish lasting peace under contemporary conditions.
