While it is readly ascepted within the museum field and by the visiting public that museums are places of learning, such institutions have historically had a difficult time demonstrating their educational effectiveness. studies over the years have repeatedly shown that, compared with other, more formal and structured venues of education, museum exhibits and programs do not realize the same types of learning outcomes (falk & dierking, 2000 ; nedzel, 1952 ; shettel, 1976).
