This research aimed to find out whether the cooperative learning method involving pair work with different capabilities was more effective than that of similar capabilities in solving simple problems namely tangram puzzles. This research was conducted based on the findings that early childhood education in Indonesia has yet to pay more attention to problem solving skills. Early childhood education has focused more on the teaching of reading, writing and co?nputation. The research employed pretest-postest controlled group designs. The data were collected by gauging the children’s accuracy and speed in solving tangram puzzles. The statistical computation showed that the capability variations of the pre-school children in the cooperative learning group had no impact on the levels of achievements.
