Isi artikelIn keeping with the importance of culture in language learning, this article suggests the inclusion of a cultural orientation program in the language teaching curriculum. The idea is suggested against the backdrop of two conditions inevitably experienced learners studying in another culture. The first is the phenomenon of culture shock and the other is a task factor. Both are putlined briefly to serve as the rationale of establishing a cultural orientation program. Next, type of cross cultural contact are touched upon with a view to determining the types of learners from whom the program will be most suitable. The content of the program is then discussed, with specifiec reference to the two pertinent factors of culture shock and task factors. Issues regarding how to cope with the shicj and how to get one adapted to the work values of the target culture are elaborated in this section. In order to realize the content of the program, some instructional aspects will be put forward. This encompasses the selection of instructional aspects will be put forward. This encompasses the selection of instructors or facilitatorsm the selection of learnes, the compilation of topics to be dealt with by learners, and the techniques in presenting them to the class. Finally some important evaluation aspects will aslo be set forth, with the highlight on the issue of authenticity of test tasks. A discussion on crosslinguistic research will lead to the construction of such evaluation.
