this study was concerned with the frequency counts and the frequency bands of the English words used in a junior high school English textbook for the first year students, the English texts in the textbook were scanned and converted into an electronic corpus. The corpus was then analyzed using the concordance program, a computer software designed for corpus analysis. The analysis redults revealed that there were 984 word families representing 1,113 word types and 12,805 word takens. It also revealed that frequency of counts or occurence of the English words in the textbook varied, ranging from 1 to 877. The frequency of occurence of the words, with low frequency bands, the words in the high frequency bands or the core vocabulary have high text coverage, while the low frequency words have low text coverage. These findings are meant to serve two purposes, an evaluation of an already existing textbook and a reference for future textbook design.
