Some critical and new projects usually need an accurate control system to avoid the risks of being not completed as planned or taking too much resources at the end. Several of those project control systems such as CPM Critical Path Method and PERT Program Evaluation and ReviewTechnique are presented in this article. CPM is especially useful for controlling critical but familiarized projects, and PERT is especially effective to control critical and very new projects. The similarity between CPM and PERT is that both systems concentrate on the critical path. The difference is that in CPM the completion time of each activity is assumed to be fixed, but in PERT the completion time is based on the probability distribution curve. By using PERT, the probability of success of that project to be completed within the targetted time frame can be projected in advance.
