Although Indonesian is a language with an SV (subject-verb) sentence pattern, it also allows the pattern VS. The VS pattern is more aften used in Old than in Modern Malay texts. This paper aims at finding out the rate of decline in the use of the VS pattern in modern Indonesian by using five texts as data. For around half a century since 1928 the decline has been sharp. The decline, however, is not evenly distributed among the sentence types. An investigation is also launched to see where the sharp decline has occured and why. (koleksi ada di PKPM)
