Most people believe that the financial ratio method has many weaknesses. Without knowing these weaknesses, the result of analysis can be biased. It may not be wrong, as like any other analytical method the financial analysis does have limitations. However, contrary to the common belief, indeed, only a few of these weaknesses are really limitations of the financial ratio method. Most of such weaknesses do not belong to the financial ratio method. Some other weaknesses have already been overcame, thus they are not a problem anymore. Ratio analysis is very useful, but analysts should be aware of the remaining problems and make adjustments as necessary. Of course, ratio analysis conducted in a mechanical, unthinking manner is dangerous, but used intelligently and with good judgment, it can provide very useful insights into a firm's operations.
