Characterization of Platter Hard Disk as Data Storage Media. The most important part in hard disk drive is the plat which has magnetic coating on its surface as the media for data storage. The harddisk material observed in this experiment was categorized as thin film media. Material composition was dine by EDS (Energy Dispersive Spectrometer) and showed that the plat consist of 78% Ni, 13% P, 4% Cr and 5% Co as thin layerm whereas the base material consist of Al-Mg alloy, This result was also supported by the hardness data 72 VHN that is in good adreement with the characteristic of Al-mg alloy done by LECO Hardness Testing Machine M-400-HI. The microstructure of base material obtained by using the production of base material use the isostatic pressing instead of casting. The 10 nm thickness of the layer observed by using philip SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope), whereas the microstructure of the thin layer were not obtained by using this equipment.
