Electrical Power of Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion or OTEC uses potential sun energy that lies deep in the ocean. Indonesia has great potential of ocean thermal energy because it is situated around the equator where the sun illuminates the ocean constantly every year. It consists of thousands of islands, so that the construction of a closed cycled OTEC energy power plant could be relied on compared to other energy sources. This alternative energy OTEC should be considered as the energy source for the future due to diminishing petroleum supply. However the investment cost of OTEC power energy is still higher than other energy sources. This is the main problem of developing an OTEC system. On a commercial scale, the OTEC energy system in Indonesau should be considered since development of this technology is still at its trial stage.
