Isi artikelNutritional anemia is believed to be the most wode spread nutritional disorder in the world affecting large population groups in most developing countries, including Indonesia. Although many causes of anemia have been identified, nutritional deficiency due primarily to a lack of biowell over half the total number of causes. iron balance depends in three factors : 1) iron requirement, 2) iron loss from ohysiological and pathological processes and 3) amount of iron digested and absorbed in the intestine. Anemia is associated with decreased work capacity and mental performance and probably with impaired resistance to infection. Basically three principles of direct intervention are available to prevent nutritional anemia : 1) nutrition education, should encourage the eating of vegetables and other foods that are rich in iron, 2) supplementation the distribution of hemtinic is supplied by adding it to saveral foodstuffs. Supplementation is the appropriate and feasible approach in reducing the high prevalence of anemia particularly in pregnant women.
