Polypropylene is virtually a type of undergraded plastic. However, by using radition technique in which acrylic acid as compatibilizer is mixed with cellulose, we will expectedly yield an environmentally acceptec plastic. The objective of this study is to determine the degradation level (tensile stregth, yield strength and elongation to break) of sampled plastic after being kept underground. Observation was carried out by, weekly measuring 6 plastics of different composition over 3 weeks. The result showed that plastic conmposing of polypropilene 36%, cellulose 4%, and PPgAAc 2% was signivicanlty stronger among the samples tested, where the respective yield strength was detected at 251 kg / cm2. However due to degradation process, this strength had been declining down to 217.6 kg / cm2 in the third week. Furthermore, it also revealed that the tensile strength as well as the elongation to break of the tested samples were zero presumbably, because cellulose is being intesited into polypropilene. Further study by introducing inhibitor or by revamping radiation technique will probably improve the above finding.
