Deposit or scale formation at the inner diameter of expansion joint (EJ) caused increased temperature of metal-deposit interface. This increased temperature is caused by gas combustion pressure in the EJ and produced increased tensile stress and vibration. The tensile stress, vibration and over heating of the metal-deposit interface will result in creep and micro crack as an initial phase of EJ damage.
