Isi artikel
Since Pope John Paul II wrote his apostolic letter Ordinatio Sacerdotalis (1994), opposition to the ordination of women is more and more taken as a sign of orthodoxy. An ominous sign, in the author's humble opinion.Still more disturbing, according to him, is the refusal to allow discussion and debate on the question. In this article the writer argues that up till now the Church's policy that prevents women from ordination, is not based on teaching that has to be considered as infallible. Among the (fundamental theological) reasons for this point of view, the following ones are pointed out by him. In the apostolic letter mentioned above, the Pope does not speak ex cathedra. Nevertheless, the letter denies definitively ordination to women, taking its stand on the magisterium ordinarium universale. It seems, however that there are no good grounds for it, among other things because of the impossibility to verify whether the conditions in order to exercise this magisterium are fullfilled or not. According to canon law (c.749 , 3), no teaching of the Church is considered t be infallible, unless it is determined as such, clearly and certainly. In the present case, however, there ambiguities and open questions rather than clarity and certainty.
