Isi artikelHave traditional patterns of parenting disappeared with modernity? This is one of the research questions of a qualitative study of Danish dual earner parents with different socio cultural backgrounds. The article focuses on tradition and modernity concerning four aspects of parenting: values of upbringing, the relation between parental roles and work roles, potential for action and negotiations. The findings suggest that, even in the age of modernity, parenthood in some families is strongly marked by traditional patterns of attitudes and behavior. Further, the socio cultural background of the parents influences the extent to which their parenting is marked by either tradition or modernity. The findings have empirical, as well as theoretical and methodological implications.
