Integrated development zone (Kapet) of Bima district has a total area of 4,596.90 km2. This region has tropical climate with short rainy season and long dry season. This district has sufficient human resources to develop agriculture although there are several constraints. Infrastructure is also available such as roads, sea transportation, airport and irrigation system. The agriculture sector is very important for Kapet Bima district because 47 percent of product domestic regional income in 1994 comes from agricultural sector. Various commodities have been grown inthis district such as food crops, animal husbandary, fisheries and cash crops. In accordance with National regulation number 22, 1999 on regional autonomy, the management of KApel including Bima district in the future will be fully managed by the local government.
