In order to be able to perform Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) qualitative - qantitative analysis on symplisia as jamu components, a standard method was needed, but no international source of information could be used as reference and therefore an original Indonesian idea was formulated and designated as the Reverse Approach work design. The main technique is TLC, but since one deals with natural materials, one should know the basic rules, logical thinking to obtain the right composition of the solvent, the three multiple development rules and its criteria, and the meaning of the A + B = C equation.
