As stated in the introduction to Part I (Language Teaching, 15, 2) the second part of the article is organised into sections, each dealing with a specific theme, and it is intended that the bibliographical references given (in Part I) should be sufficient to serve as introductory reading at least. The ideas and developments selected cannot be said to be the only ones worthy of discussion in EL T at present, but they may be counted as being among some of the most significant. Testing has been specifically excluded, as it has recently been extensively surveyed (Davis, 1978).
