This study aims at answering the following questions : 1) What teaching materials are needed by NOn-Indonesian Language department students learning Bahasa Indonesia ? , 2) What teaching methods are appropriate for those students ? To answer these questions a set of questionaires were distributed to the students of non-Indonesian Department learning Bahasa Indonesia and the key persons of the non-Indonesian department. In addition, 70 papers written by those students were analyzed to reveal the errors they made in writing academin compositions. The study uncovers that : 1) the materials needed by non-Indonesian department students learning. Indonesia should be focused on academinc writing, 2) the teaching learning strategies required are self-study, cooperative learning and inquiry. Furthermore, more opportunities for writing practices are needed.
