Part of the Singkarak Lake area is in Tanah Datar distric and part of the other in Solok district of West Sumatra province. Singkarak Lake is located between 600 - 1000 m above sea level with temperature between 20 - 27 Celcius Degree, and rainfall rate of 12.7 mm / day in Tanah Datar and 15 mm / day in Solok district. Singkarak Lake water is used for agricultural, fishery, drinking water, electricity and tourism. Thus, it is important to know why the water capacity of the lake always decreases in amount. By using the processing of remote sensing data of time series Landsat 7 - TM satellite data and supported by other data, we were able to determine that the water capacity of the lake was weak. The forest area decreased to 19,878.03 Ha (38.7%) within 6 years from July 7, 1994 - 2000, at the same time the surface of lake water decreased to 40.95 Ha and the need for lake water in hydroelectric power generatiob was qute high (36.2 m3/sec) from wet to dry season.
