Women have been placed as second-class citizens. When a women is successful in her career as politician, writer, painter, etc, the public may consider her a feminist, not part of the mainstream "male" society. This discrepancy between man and woman has been created by our patriarchal society assuming the World being controlled by men. In the same time, women have become marginalized in society and being sexually exploited making men more dominant and creating the "right" image of women being home makers. Nowadays, laws have eliminated discrimination, it is the initial step towards equality and equity and guarantees equal access for women and men in all levels of society.
