The military operation in Naggroe Aceh Darussalam, created controversy on nationalism between the press and military. The military perceives nationalism on loyalty to the state, while the press perceives nationalism as how freedom is used for the benefit of the public. The press uses it spower of public control on the performance of the government. On facts, honesty and fair reporting. The old paradigm of nationalism has been shifted from physical into non-physical such as oppeness, transperance, justice and human rights. The shift in Nationalist has been influenced by the change in the political system in Indonesia that promotes freedom of the press. In the case of this newfound freedom the press must balance between idealism and materialism. The press not infrequently is oriented to business and truth, honesty and loyalty to the state is often weaken.
