In its attempt to keep track of the research being conducted in the teaching of English as a second or foreign language, in language learning, descriptive linguistics, sociolinguistics and psycholinguistics in Southeast Asia, a Research Register has been established at the RELC Library and Information Centre. This Research Register is the result of a request specifically expressed by participants in the Regional Seminar in June 1971 that RELC should endeavour to maintain up-to-date information files on research in the region, and on possible research topics, to assist researchers, prevent overlap of projects and duplication of research. By means of a questionnaire sent to institutions and individuals, efforts were made to collect details of research in progress. The information provided by the chief researchers is hereby published for the purpose of disseminating information. Many thanks are due to these researchers for kindly co-operating in sending .the information to RELC. The Research Register is a perennial feature of the RELC Information Centre. Data to be recorded in it are always welcome and, in fact, researchers are encouraged to keep RELC informed of their research activities.
