Everyday memory was assessed using questionnaires and checklists completed by each subject and independently by a relative who was in daily contact with him. Overall, a high degree of consistency was found among these measures, though the lower consistency of the subjects' questionnaire illustrated the problems of validity with self-assessment. The relatives' questionnaire correlated with test performance for normal subjects and for the long-term head-injured group but not for the recently head-injured subjects who had not yet reached a stable state. The highest correlations were with prose recall and paired-associate learning.
