Isi artikel
A review of the existing literature reveals that full voicing will automatically occur for lax stop closures of short duration. However, systematic investigations of this have been relatively neglected. Various instrumental techniques were used to verify the claim with British English speakers. It was found that full voicing is generally independent of the variation in the oral closure interval of a lax stop: full voicing will not necessarily occur for the shortest lax stop closures. The underlying physiological mechanism for full voicing during the oral closure phase of a stop may reside in factors other than the duration of stop closure.
