Isi artikel
Teachers are being encouraged to develop their expertise in a number of ways, including making greater use of new technology and collecting and analysing authentic language for and in their classes. For pre-employment ESP courses these two challenges come together through corpus studies, which allow teachers to collect, store, analyse and use oral language samples as the basis for language classes. How easy is this process, technically and in terms of time? Are the results useful for teaching? We recorded ten hours of authentic conversations in the pay office of one New Zealand factory. We then used computer software to determine the content and vocabulary of the conversations. This is an account of our study and its possible applications for other teachers of pre-employment ESP courses. "J 2002 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd on behalf of The American University.
