The article discusses some issues related to qualitative research and theory building : the different role theory in qualitative and quantitative research, and the difference between theory verification and theory building. With its charateristic such as flexibility and it closeness to the field, qualitative approaches have its strengths beyong hypothesis testing and verification. With circular process of thinking, researcher is someone who is rich with concepts, yet in the meantime, isn't trapped into it. Since theory is systematically build from data, qualitative approaches are capable of building substantive and formal theories, both reflecting the complexity and inter - subjectivity of the phenomena. This article also discusses the difference between theory and ideology.
