In July 182, a discussion forum was held at the University of Reading, England to consider the communicative teaching of English in non-English-speaking countries. It was attended by some 150 teachers of English from outside Britain who were taking short in-service training courses at the University's linguistics department and Centre of Applied Language Studies.
