This article points out the limitations of traditional and current approaches to the teaching of continous writing in ESL situations and then describes a different approach designed to combine acquisition and learning as a result of a process involving exposure, use and analysis. This approach also allows learners opportunities to produce authentic writing from an elementary level and to work on skills and items relevant to their neds. Examples are offered for the elementary level and upper intermediate level and the underlying theoritical basisof the approach is then explained.
