Foreign language teachers now have access to more instructional resources than ever before. One of these resources, a technology that is often underutilized, is satellite television. Satellite television can provide, especially in the case of French, a continuous stream of up-to-date, authentic language and culture materials to the classroom or lab. The challenge of satellite television is what to select among the many available programs and how to incorporate them into instruction. This article describes the elements of satellite technology, provides information on French and other foreign language programming, and offers suggestions for exploiting satellite television in the classroom.
