Specifically, the study asks, “Do students who pet$orm well on the OPI also perform well on more traditional measurnof studentsuccess?”and “What other t$.fects ifanj does omlproficienncy testing have on a fomign language pmgmm? ” Multivariate The study reported here ~ ~ ~ analyses of variance were performed on scores from the OPI and the subscales of the College Board Foreign Language Achievement Rst from 492 third fourth, and fifth year high school foreign language students. Qualitative data in- clude idormation from interviews, observa- tions, and a questionnaire distributed to ad- ministmtors, teachers and students. Significant cornlatiom wetv found between student pegor- mane at the higher levels of the OPIand on the achievement tests.
