In the past two decades, the world has seen an up surge of business done across national boundaries. This has given rise to global brand names and multinational production sites, accompanied by an enhanced sensitivity to country differences on the part of the consumer. This study examines the impact a product's brand name and its country - of - origin have on consumers' attitude. Different country - of - origin and two products electronics and clothes were studied. Electronics and clothes were selected due to its nature of reflecting two products lying across the extreme of the perceived risk hierarchy continum. Electronic products are perceived as risky products and clothing products on the other extreme as non - risky products. The countries (USA, japan, singapore, indonesia) were chosen so as to reflect the different levels of economic development. The findings indicated that the country - of - origin of a product does indeed affect consumers' perceptions of its quality, acceptability and performance. The pattern of results showed that price was not a significant factor contrary to preceeding studies. It also illustrated that the attitudes of the respondents tended to be biased toward developed countries and were biased against developing countries. This study also found that indonesia, as a developing country significantly lack the quality perceived by the respondents.
