Isi artikel
In this study, the level of computational complexity needed to model one facet of prosody processing-the perception of word accent- was examined. For a given set of acoustic parameters, results demonstrated that if the appropriate simple features are abstracted, accent perception can be modeled extremely well. The complexity of the resulting model was further reduced by assuming that such features carry no intrinsic meaning, but rather function as attention markers detected by means of pre-attentive processes.
