Isi artikelIn the derivation of the critical insulation radius for a cylinder, it was assumed that the average heat transfer coefficient h is a constant. From analysis of natural convection, the average heat transfer coefficient depends not only on the vertical size of the body but also on the wall-fluid temperature difference. In this paper has been developed a method for calculating numerically the total heat transfer rate through the insulation, as a function of the outer radius when the average heat transfer coefficient h is not constant. The critical insulation radius for which total heat transfer rate reaches its maximum has been determined.
