Perception that educational background and science-technology literacy contribute significantly to teaching quality made Indonesian gavernment requires elementary school teachers to posses a minimal degree of Diploma 2. This article examines the perception by comparing elementary teachers’ teaching quality based on their educational background. Using a stratified random sampling method, 58 elementary teachers from Boyolali, Central Java, were served as samples. Data gathered by document study, observation, and tests were analyzed using descriptive quantitative method showed direct contribution of educational background to teaching quality. Likewise, literacy in science and technology has both direct and indirect contribution to teaching quality. Based on the research findings, it is recommended to encourage elementary teachers to pursue higher education in relevant fields.
