In the past 5 years there has been a growing interest among psychology practitioners in obtaining preception privileges, and relevant policy documents have reflected increasing supporting on the APA. The nonphysician health manpowe, literature has demunstrated that a wide range of prefessionals can be trained to prescribe medications competemly, while maintaining quality of care; within federal agencies, psychists have legally prescribed medications. Ongoing debates in Hawai and in the USA Department of e may be luying the fouwiation for psychology's training and practice agenda for the 1990. Were psychologis to have this clinical privilege, many sncietai needs-including addressing the longstanding probiems of excessive medication nf elderly persons and quality care for the chronically mentally ill and for persons residing in iural areas-child be met.
