Isi artikel
Besides graphite, copper is the most popular material to be used as EDM electrodes. Graphite is difficult to be machined to complex surface or small diameter due to its brittleness. In this work, copper is used as the electrode in drilling small hole by EDM. Two types of copper - solid and tubular - are used to drill a small hole in a hypodermic needle. The trepanning effect is expected to give better performance by using tubular electrode. It is also used to study the effect of cross sectional area on the machining quality. The result o fthe work shows that - to get good holes - drilling should be done under positive polarity. Best holes were drilled under medium pulse duration and discharge current. In this condition tubular tool wears faster than the solid one.
